An update on Langdon Court Manor.

Set in our beautiful south Devon countryside near the village of Wembury, Langdon Court is a stunning 16th Century, grade II listed manor house which has been renovated by Donna Ida Thornton and Robert Walton MBE. Their idea has been to create an exclusive country house hotel for celebrations with a difference making it the perfect venue for fine dining, lavish celebrations, and or an indulgent getaway.

We’ve really enjoyed our time working with them on numerous soft furnishing projects. The building and decorating team at Langdon Court have been so helpful to us, and the whole atmosphere has made it a joy to be part of the wider team.

We’re heading into the last phase of the transformations now, making curtains, soft Roman blinds, and cushions for the bedrooms. We’re also excited to be creating a tented walkway. Keep an eye on our Instagram page to find out more!

Staying cool this summer.

Whatever your preferred style, a range of options are available to block out unwanted light this summer whilst creating a cool and sophisticated living space.

These include:

  • Roman blinds
  • Shutters
  • Voiles

Let’s have a look at each one in more detail…

Beautiful Roman blinds.

Roman blinds have stood the test of time with their classic, elegant, yet practical style.
There are numerous benefits of Roman blinds, including:

  • Versatile fitting options. They can be fitted inside OR outside the window recess, so if space is an issue, a Roman blind may well be the solution! For example, curtains are generally fitted outside the window recess, requiring space for a curtain pole and space on either side of the window for stack back. Whereas a Roman blind can be fitted inside the window recess thus solving the limited space issue.

  • Less fabric is required. A Roman blind requires less fabric than curtains, so you can choose that gorgeous expensive fabric you’ve fallen in love with!
  • A range of linings are available. Control light and reduce utility bills by choosing blackout and/or energy-saving linings. You can even have a contrast coloured or patterned lining to showcase your individual style
  • Create a look that matches your personality. Last month, we showcased the drape styles available in Roman blinds (stacked, cascade, and soft). Each can create a subtly different aesthetic for your chosen window. To find out more, click here.
  • Maximise light control. Roman blinds can be used in conjunction with curtains to control the amount of light entering your home. This is particularly useful for creating a cool, dark atmosphere in bedrooms. You can also add a pelmet to reduce the amount of light at the top of the blind. You can read more on the different types of pelmets you can choose from in our Spring Fling blog.

  • Classic yet modern. Roman blinds are easy to operate and maintain. There’s also the option to automate them, making them an even more practical and modern addition to your home. Automation can be a simple remote control, or if you’re a gadget lover, why not link them to your smart home technology such as Google Assist or Amazon Alexa?

Contemporary shutters.

If you prefer a sleek, minimalist look, shutters are another popular window dressing option. Adding serious curb appeal to your home, choose from full-length, café-style, tier-on-tier, or semi-solid, depending on your requirements.

Great for improving privacy, particularly in road-facing rooms, shutters allow you to control visibility and the amount of light simply by angling the slats as you wish. If you also suffer from a dust allergy, shutters could be your answer, reducing the number of soft furnishings in your home.

Shutters can help reduce external noise … again a great option if you live near a busy road.

Options include real wood or water-resistant PVC, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. There’s also a range of colours available, allowing you to inject a pop of colour or match your existing colour palette.

Delicate voiles.

If you’re looking for a more relaxed, and restful ambience in your home, voiles are a stylish way to shade your rooms ( and they can be used in conjunction with your curtains.)

In terms of privacy, they don’t offer as much as shutters or blinds. Voiles do provide some privacy during daylight hours. However, once you turn your lights on inside the house, they become much more transparent. So just bear this in mind!

As the summer months begin, voiles can be helpful in two ways. Firstly, they diffuse the strength of the sun’s glare, creating a cooler and more comfortable space. Secondly, they can block some of the sun’s harmful UV rays, reducing sun fading on furniture and fabrics.

Patterned voiles can also add interesting texture and patterns to your space as light passes through the sheer, lightweight material.

Overall, voiles give a room a soft, airy feel, perfect at this time of year. Then in the autumn and winter months, if paired with curtains, they can provide a cosy sanctuary to relax and unwind in.

Outdoor cushions.

Haven’t we been lucky with the weather over the last few weeks? It’s so lovely having long spells of dry, sunny conditions… perfect for lounging in the garden or entertaining friends and family.

If your outdoor entertaining space is looking a little lacklustre, there’s still time to give it a summer makeover with some comfy outdoor scatter cushions!

This year’s trends include:

  • Classic prints such as bees and insects – reminding us of the need to protect our wildflowers and natural habitats.
  • Opulent safari and jungle themes, including giraffes, elephants, tigers, jaguars, and parrots.
  • Large regal birds, such as peacocks and cranes.
  • Nautical themes never go out of style! Stripes, seashells, seaweed and waves are timeless.

Our amazing upholstery team can also help elevate your camping, glamping, beach hut or caravanning experience this summer.

Practical wipe-clean fabric solutions.

High-traffic areas of our homes, businesses and clinical environments need practical solutions to keep things clean and sanitary.

We recently completed a unique project involving re-covering a dental chair with a wipeable, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial fabric.

Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis – a charity dear to our hearts.

Pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of the lungs) describes a group of lung diseases where the lungs become progressively stiffer and smaller, reducing oxygen levels in the blood. The condition affects around 70,000 people in the UK.

Symptoms may include shortness of breath, tiredness, a persistent cough, and swollen fingertips. These symptoms can profoundly affect a sufferer’s life. However, new treatments are being developed through clinical trials all the time, thanks to fundraising efforts.

Our graphic designer is busy in the background exploring colours and designs. And we can’t wait to share it all with you when it’s finished, so watch this space!

That’s all from us this month. Enjoy the start of summer and let’s hope the sun continues to shine!
