The air’s a little crisper, the colours are getting richer, and we’re embracing everything this season brings … warmth, texture and just a touch of Halloween magic.

The Art of Autumn Styling

October isn’t just about pumpkins, it’s about creating comfort.

Layer burnt oranges, deep navy, and soft neutrals for a cosy, timeless look that feels like autumn without the cliches.

Quick Tip: combine different textures, wool, linen, and cotton, for depth and warmth.

This is the perfect time to introduce burnt oranges, deep navy, moss greens, and soft neutrals into your home. These shades feel grounded and calming, a palette that mirrors the turning leaves outside without feeling overly themed.

Think of autumn styling as layering, not just in colour, but in texture. Blend the crisp structure of linen with the softness of wool or a hint of velvet for balance and depth. Add throws, textile cushions, or even a statement pair of curtains in a rich tone to transform your space from summer light to autumn glow.

Quick Tip:

Mixing materials is key! Try pairing a rustic woven fabric with something smoother or slightly shimmery. The contrast makes your room feel inviting and considered, effortlessly stylish, not staged.

Pumpkin Inspiration – NP Soft Furnishings Style

This year, we took a creative twist on the classic pumpkin and ‘painted’ our NP Soft Furnishings logo onto one! It’s our nod to craftsmanship, creativity and the joy of adding personal touches.

Try It Yourself: Paint your pumpkins instead of carving, they’ll last longer and look chic in any room.

Behind the Seams:

The studio’s been buzzing with autumn projects lately – from pleated curtains in beautiful linens to bespoke loose covers that breathe new life into favourite furniture.

We’ve also been exploring more eco-conscious fabrics this season – materials that are not only beautiful but responsibly sourced.

Sneak Peek:

Keep an eye on our socials next month for a special before-and-after feature you won’t want to miss!

Clyng Mill, Kingston, Devon

Nestled in the Devon countryside, Clyng Mill is full of rustic charm, exposed beams, stone walls and plenty of character. The brief for the interior designers was to create something that enhanced that natural warmth while bringing a touch of seasonal richness to the space.

We installed new curtains and designed cushions in a stunning woven fabric that blends deep reds, golds, and earthy tones, perfectly capturing the essence of autumn. The result feels timeless, full of texture, and beautifully in tune with its surroundings. The beautiful red piping is leather used from our offcuts, thus no waste. The fabric’s intricate pattern adds depth and interest without overpowering the space, while the bold yet balanced palette ties together the old and the new – heritage meets homely comfort.

Cushions The Complete The Look

The coordinating cushions were made using the same fabric, piped neatly for definition and contrast. They pull together the entire colour story – rich reds, rustic golds, and earthy undertones – making the space feel effortlessly styled and beautifully balanced.

Placed across window seats and sofas, they bring comfort and cohesion to every corner of the mill.

Why We Love It:

This project is proof that warm colours don’t just belong to Halloween – they can elevate a home all year round.

Seasonal Tips and Tricks:

  • Switch to thermal linings – stay snug while keeping energy costs down.
  • Mix and match fabrics – Autumn’s the perfect excuse to play with layers.
  • Add seasonal scents – cedar, cinnamon, and cloves create instant ambience.
  • Warm up your lighting – Amber shades make every corner glow.
  • Bring the outdoors in – Dried flowers, pinecones, or branches in neutral vases feel rustic but refined.

This month we’re loving cosy contrasts ….

This month, we’re loving contrasting fabrics, pairing smooth velvets with natural linens or using bold prints against soft plains.

It’s an easy way to make any room feel refreshed and balanced.

Try This:

Choose one statement pattern and let your other fabrics complement it quietly – it’s a designer trick that always feels polished.

A Fresh Look for a Much-Loved Armchair

Nestled in a beautiful home in Webury, this charming armchair had seen better days, a well-used favourite that had become too worn to fit the rest of the room’s timeless style. Rather than replace it, our client chose the more sustainable (and sentimental) option: a new bespoke loose cover, handcrafted to bring it back to life. We used Ian Mankin’s Navy Ticking Stripe, a fabric known for its classic British design and exceptional durability. The crisp navy and white stripes instantly refreshed the chair, while the tailored fit maintained its original shape and comfort.

The result? A beautiful balance of heritage and freshness, a price that feels both modern and full of history. Proof that with the right fabric and craftsmanship, even the most well-loved furniture can enjoy a brand-new chapter.

Design Detail:

Ticking stripes are wonderfully versatile; they suit coastal cottages, contemporary homes, and everything in between. They also add subtle texture and pattern without overwhelming a space.

Styling Tip:

Pair ticking stripes with soft fabrics and layered textures (think jute rugs, natural wood, and linen cushions) for a relaxed, coastal-inspired interior.
