During the winter season our instincts are to hole up and get cosy as often as we can. The colour and style trends for Autumn/Winter 2018 are just perfect for creating a warm haven, away from the bleak weather and dark evenings.

As always there is a plethora of furnishing trends to choose from. Ranging from Industrial minimalism with its structural lighting versus the clean lines and optimistic colours of the Scandinavian/Nordic style. The vibrant Oriental prints in contrast with the heavy Jacobean weaves. Tweeds and nature versus luxury. They are all jostling for our attention and each style will have a range of price points.  All these trends deserve attention but in this blog we are going to concentrate on the popular Woodland haven and Luxe trends.  We have put together a couple of mood boards featuring some of our current fabric range to give you some ideas to explore and expand on.

Woodland Haven.

Unleash your inner fox!

In winter most of us generally want to create a snug retreat until next spring, the Woodland trend embraces this ideal.  It draws its inspiration from rich warm tones of berries, bark and brambles.   The colours that work well in this design are plum, indigo, chocolate, rich reds, golds, midnight blues, deep greens, soft greys and pale lilacs. Think of sky colours filtered through ash grey tree trunks, with chinks of crisp cold light on a frosty morning. The hint of a rust coloured tail flicked as its cautious owner melts into the undergrowth.

There are plenty of room accessories available including lamps, framed pictures and fabric printed cushions of woodland creatures. Mice, rabbits, foxes and deer are particularly popular. So if you want to really develop the woodland theme, accessories are the key. It doesn’t have to be costly, local supermarkets are embracing this theme and offering quirky lamps, crockery and blankets (the images below were found in our local Sainsbury’s). Finish the look with a generous helping of chunky knits and along with spicy winter scent sticks and your unique woodland haven will wrap its warmth around you every time you enter the room.

The Luxe trend.

Luxe is a very popular trend and has been around in various forms of intensity.  As you’d expect with the Luxe furnishing trend, golds/brass, marble and velvet’s all work. Along with warm tones of blush pink, dusk rose, gold, navy and midnight blues.

Art Deco and 1930’2 style furniture in velvet with deep buttoning detail, metallic lamps, gilded mirrors and sculptured metallic tables oozing opulence work very well in this trend.  With this style you can be daring and have some real fun with this style.

Mood boards are a great way of testing that fabrics and colours work together.  It is always a good idea to make one if you are thinking of refreshing your furnishing scheme. We have created all these mood boards using fabric we can supply.

So in January when the mad month of December and Christmas seems a world away, have some fun with current trends and your furnishings. You don’t have to go replace the whole room, see if you can adapt and refresh your scheme by tweaking a few pieces here and there.  Just a few choice pieces like re-upholstery of a well loved armchair and a new lamp can ease you into that new furnishing trend you wanted to try out.

Or you could seize the moment and go for it.  What ever approach you decide to take we would be very happy to help you with your furnishings and trend choice. You can get in touch with us by clicking the following link https://www.nikissoftfurnishings.co.uk/.
