Wow, we have had a glorious summer and we hope you’ve all managed to take a relaxing summer break!
It’s time to think about getting cosy with warm curtains
As the daylight hours shorten, our curtains become very important. There are a few things you can check to assess how well your curtains are working for you.
• Double check your curtain linings, are they still intact?
• Do your curtains fit your window correctly?
• Are you missing any curtain pole rings or curtain track hooks?
Although these may seem like small points they will help you block those unwanted icy draughts this autumn and winter.
If you need new linings, maybe consider thermal linings or blackout energy-saving linings to reduce heat loss and save on those dreaded energy bills. Read more on this below.
The longest curtains we’ve made in 2022
This gorgeous pair of velvet curtains is going to do a great job at blocking draughts this winter and they are the longest curtains we’ve made this year, but there is still time to beat this current record.
Our client lives in a wonderful grade 1 listed apartment. When it comes to buying new curtains our client is faced with a few unique challenges. The first is how to accurately measure a window over four meters, the second is sourcing suitable fabrics and the third is fitting and hanging such long and heavy curtains.
These are all challenges we love, and this was a hugely enjoyable project to work on. As you can see, we have successfully delivered two pairs of triple pleated curtains in a Monceau velvet from Designers Guild, and our client is very pleased with the results.
This pair of curtains are 407cm long.

Set your dreams free
As Autumn progresses, we will naturally start thinking of hunkering down and getting comfortable.
According to House Beautiful– “a third of Brits believe pastel colours are most likely to evoke feelings of joy and happiness – and a soft pink has emerged as the colour of choice to invoke a sense of wellness”.
There is nothing quite like relaxing against your own tailor-made headboard in your favourite colour to generate a feeling of warmth and comfort. We have so many fabrics to choose from you are sure to find your own shade of pastel.
Why not treat yourself to a made-to-measure soft cosy plush headboard this Autumn?
A blush pink velvet headboard before the bed base was installed.
This blush pink headboard is one of four we made for the bedrooms in The Smurf House, a stunning holiday home in Salcombe.
Katie wanted a unique upholstered headboard made in her chosen fabric with integrated light switches and plug socket placeholders.
Katie had carefully designed the décor in each of the five bedrooms and to complement her colour schemes, Katie had a vision of luxurious fluted velvet upholstered headboards with soft domed-shaped tops. Our upholsterer had a number of meetings with Katie, created some drawings, and submitted mood boards for approval. Our design was finalised and approved by Katie with the result above.
We have affectionally termed this the Lollipop headboard. To achieve the design, our upholsterer individually upholstered each section (let’s call them lollipop sticks), this produced the overall fluted effect and gave the pleasing curved-shaped top profile.

Energy savings
The cost of energy is very prominent in the media at the moment and something we are all concerned about.
So when information about an energy-saving blackout lining landed in our inbox from a long trusted supplier of ours, we jumped at the opportunity of ordering a sample and testing it out.
We stitched it, punched holes in it, folded it, ironed it, and anything else we could throw at it, and the results are in… we love it! (It’s even shiny on the inside).
Energy saving blackout lining
We believe this lining could be a fantastic cost-effective way of stopping radiating heat or cold without the need for expensive heavy interlinings.
Where this could be useful:
• Where double glazing cannot be installed.
• In properties where walls can’t take heavy curtains.
• For door curtains and large picture windows where curtains require a slender stack back.
We are really excited about this new product which is already going down a treat with our clients. If would you like to know more and how it could work for you then why not get in touch.
Our Chosen Charity for September
Next month we are supporting the Pregnancy Crisis Care charity. They are holding a fundraising charity ball at Boringdon Park Golf Club on the 24th September 2022.
There are a few tables left if you would like to get a group together. We are sure it will be a superb evening, so why not dust off those ball gowns and have some fun?
If this is something dear to you and you would also like to support, please follow their Facebook page or contact them via email or phone which are listed below…
