Comforting cosy colours, our latest projects, playful patterns, Langdon Court update and motorized blinds…

Time to get cosy

Autumn is well and truly here, warm browns, burnt oranges and mellow mustard yellows are all earthy natural tones that look great in our homes, make us feel closer to nature and appeal to our natural urge to retreat from the outdoor elements at this time of year.

These colours can work in our homes all year round. They are colour palettes that work with many decor schemes just as in Nature. They bring warmth and evoke comfort which is becoming more important at this time of year and in these chaotic times.

Playful patterens

Choosing colour and pattern can be daunting but can really lift your spirits, especially on dull damp wintery days. We are making this beautiful Heron velvet designed by Sara Miller into roman blinds. Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages to see the progress.

Patterns can be cheerful and eye-catching or a simple check or stripe that add interest to your property by breaking up blocks of colour. This autumn the trend is to break away from monochrome patterns and use bolder and brighter palettes.

You can be bold or you can be subtle to suit your interior tastes. But remember whatever the current trend is, be authentic to yourself – if you LOVE the fabric you’ve chosen, it will stand the test of time.

Not sure how to introduce a pattern into your property? Contact us and we will be very to help you.

Langdon court update

As many of you will know, we have been involved in the exciting renovation project at Langdon Court Manor. Phase one is complete and now attention is being turned to phase two. The owners Donna and Robert have enlisted the help of Geraldine from Apponyi Design, builders Keith Elliot Construction Ltd and finally us at Niki’s Soft Furnisings Ltd. So as you can see, it is a team effort to achieve a stunning renovation.

It is so wonderful to see this 16th century grade II listed Jacobean Manor lovingly restored. Ambitious renovation projects like Langdon take a huge investment of time and an incredible commitment, but ultimately it is always going to be passion and perfection that delivers the vision.

Phase two is underway and we are currently making curtains for the morning room. Follow our social media pages for regular updates.

Motorised blinds – Flete House

The final part of the project in the music room apartment at Flete House was the installation of the motorised roller blinds.

Both Roman blinds and roller blinds can be motorised and operated by either a wall-mounted unit or using a remote control – the choice is yours.

Why mototrised? There are many benefits to using electric blinds.

  1. Practical and accessible for all: As well as promoting independence to anyone with mobility considerations for whom reaching chains or spring mechanised blinds would be a challenge. They are also great for hard to reach areas, as was the situation at Flete House. The windows were very high and the wall space beneath was required for an office space. Cords would have been impractical and and long curtains would have made valuable wall area unusable.
  2. Safety: Removing the cords, entirely removes the risk to children and pets of accidental entanglement and strangulation.
  3. Protection: Motorised blinds can be integrated with a sun sensor which will automatically lower the blind when the intensity of the sunshine reaches a level that could be damaging to your furnishings and artworks. This would reduce the damage and extend the life of your furnishings, particularly in those beautiful south-facing aspects.
  4. Security: Motorised blinds can be integrated with a timer and set to open and close at predetermined times to make your property seem inhabited.  Perfect for short breaks away or longer holidays to make it seem as though someone is home.
